Mosaics

A mosaic is a picture made up of small pieces, which are traditionally tiny tiles of terracotta, glass or stone. Romans used mosaics as flooring so that boots of soldiers and horses would not wear down the path.

My sister Michelle has pursued making mosaics and invited me to make some with her. We used glass tiles in works of collaboration and solo efforts.

My batiks and faceted windows also consist of small parts that make a bigger picture, similar to mosaics. These three processes have informed each other in their movement, and composition. Of these three mediums, the mosaic process was learned most recently.

The collaboration of the Flying Fish incorporated big and small sections of glass that added to the texture that the colors inspired.
